Jan 4

A sea day for us and the seas have been very calm – so, perhaps a tour of our ship is in order!  Very early moon over the ocean as we sail along to LA!!!!  Can’t begin the day without a beautiful cup of cappuccino!!!  These birds called Brown Boobies fly along with the ship for miles and miles hoping for special treats!!!

Our tour is led by the Hotel GM Ronald Schweighardt from Austria.  Viking Sky has a passenger capacity of 930 with 465 crew members – 401 of those crew members report to Ronald.
We begin below deck where the all-night elves have taken down all the Christmas decorations and packed them up for storage in LA.

These magnificent cooks and chefs working in the galley prepare the most amazing meals and snacks several times a day!!!!  We’re “trying” to watch our waistlines!!!  During this past week, a very artistic brunch was served on the pool deck.

Various staff members were assembling the Viking Gift bags to be presented to each of the newly arriving passengers boarding in LA on January 5.

We then traveled down the “I-95” corridor where  crew members’ staterooms are located and foot traffic is bustling here constantly.  Then on to the laundry room where we viewed the automatic laundry folding machine in action!!!! This machine takes a clean sheet, irons it, and folds it into a neat size for uniform storage on the ship.

Then on to the HR Dept and we learned that Viking will do everything they can to retain their staff and make certain they are enjoying what they are doing!!!  And it shows!!!

On to Deck 1 where the Spa and Fitness Center are located.

The Atrium in the Center of the Ship includes Decks 3, 2 and 1 and is always full of activity like the morning Baggo Games where Jim enjoys competing with the Passenger Team vs. the Crew Team.  The Living Room is also located here, where coffees and bar beverages are served along with snacks.  Guest Services is also on Deck 1 along with the special dining restaurants, Manfredi’s (Italian) and The Chef’s Table (various cuisines).

Deck 2 includes The Restaurant serving all 3 meals and The Star Theater where all the lectures are given and shows are performed.

Deck 7 includes the Pool Deck, Pool Grill and Bar, World Café serving all 3 meals,  Wintergarden for afternoon tea, and the Explorers’ Lounge for bridge viewing and evening entertainment.

So, there you have our home-away-from-home for another 121 days! All in all, we think it's a pretty nice place to be. Thanks for enjoying this trip along with us.
