Tour of the bridge of the Viking Sky

 VIKING SKY BRIDGE TOUR

Captain Fredrik Nilsson who hails from Sweden and his bridge crew were most accommodating to host six of us on a tour of the bridge and describe the roles each crew member performs 24 hours a day!!!!  Captain Nilsson explained what each instrument is for and the job it performs.  This ship sails so smoothly because of the crew performance and, of course, the seas and wind. 


The Sky flies the local national flag of whichever port it is docked in. The necessary flags are all stored here on the bridge, along with plaques denoting the first visit to any country.

Sandy has wanted to “blow” the horn when entering or leaving a harbor and asked the Captain a few times if that were possible!!!!  She received the same answer each time – “No Maam”!!!!!  BUT she did see where the horn button was located!!!!  That’s as close as it gets!!!!  

And the small lever on the right side of this photo is the Auto Pilot for this 749 ft ship.  

Docking over and over at the various ports is accomplished so smoothly!!!!  What fun and Viking Sky has the Best Crew!!!!

    We visited the Bridge on the Sky. Amazing the small switch that controls that whole boat. Continuing to have FUN!!!!

Embarkation

 Well, it's here at last. After counting down for over 435 days, we finally arrive in Ft Lauderdale and board our new home for the next 138 days! Here is our stateroom (before the luggage arrives).  Our travelling companions are Joe Buckovic and Julie Wheeler, neighbors from The Villages. The ship is beautifully decorated for Christmas already. This is a huge gingerbread house and display in the main atrium. Came back to our stateroom after dinner to find a wonderful surprise from Viking, a nice chocolate cake and a bottle of champagne for Sandy's birthday. All in all, a wonderful start to what promises to be a magnificent experience. We look forward to sharing it with you. Now enroute to Cozumel, Mexico for our first port call. Check back for more tomorrow!
